At 2:30 p.m. on Christmas day, EMTs from the San Francisco Fire Department responded to a 911 call in Japantown. There they found six adult who had overdosed on fentanyl. Two were near death.
Nearly 600 people will die from drug overdose deaths in San Francisco this year, a rate that is three times higher than the national average. Why is that? Why does a city that claims to care so much about the downtrodden and mentally ill allow so many of them to die from easily-preventable deaths? And what are the lessons for America as a whole?
