Lots on today here. The Chronicle finally admitted today a brisk exodus is underway after over a year of denying it. They are simps for the establishment so if they admit that, then the party line is changing. I will be joining them out the door.

But IMO as a Bay Area dweller, anyone who thinks SF will really reform is surely fooling themselves. It would be hard to put the genie in the bottle again even if people did wake up. And most still live in rich woke person cloud fantasy land.

I'll pop some popcorn and wait for hot takes from that Boudin supporter who likes to show up here. Rough day for him I'll wager.

San Francisco and Californian have had strong immigration from out slide the county and also outmigration to other states.

The article you read didn’t include international migration, so it doesn’t state what you claim that it doe.

Please don't come to Colorado. We have had enough already

Kotkin has done a good job compiling evidence that international migration is also quickly swinging away from California to states like Texas. The Chronicle will pick up on it a few years after the fact I'm sure.

I would love to see a source for that. Immigration to the United States in general declined after crack downs during the period from 2016-2020 and now Covid is reducing immigration in general. The tech industry in particular wants more HB-1B visas and has a sympathetic ear in Washington.

Kotkin is a leader in the movement to stop infill density, drive up home prices and preserve Prop 13, which instills into law the perquisites of the incumbents. He then bellyaches about the division in California between the "serfs" and the feudal lords, which of course him being one of the latter.

He claims that restricting multi-family construction does not drive up the cost of housing, which seems absurd to me. There are a lot of contradictions in his narrative.

So you can find him and you can find the out of country migration data he points to. Sorry but facts are facts regardless of the writer's worldviee and news of Cali's unlivability is not lost on prospective new migrants.

This doesn't really say what you claim it says. This is a big but, but other than the high housing costs, the quality of life in California is and remains some of the best in the nation.

Going to repeat something on real estate values…thank you for your forbearance in advance…

=======

Honestly this is an old game.

Since 1965 we’ve been doing this;

1. Protests (paid for) for Civil Rights, social Justice.

2. The Left conflates crime with Civil Rights in the Progressive and minority spokespersons public mind.

3. Crime and riots explode.

4. Property values especially in otherwise prime location real estate areas plummets.

5. “Law and order is restored”.

6. “Community Policing” thump thump smack smack and Section 8 vouchers offer carrot and stick to relocate (jail works too).

7. Developers who were financing Radical Chic and Social Justice yesterday buy gutted real estate for pennies. Usually with tax breaks 😂.

See The Pritzkers, Chicago.

Its not arson for the insurance money, its Social Justice!

8. Gentrification on shall we say a lighter note (of skin tone) happens and its a “Renaissance”!!

9. Repeat every generation.

10. This never gets old.

Property values in San Francisco have been shooting up for 25 years. Recent events have not changed that at all.

Congratulations on the successful advocacy by the way. You have been part of this movement away from defunding the police and towards more spending on public safety and it looks like your efforts are paying off. Let’s hope that it works to reduce violent crime!

Thank you for you advocacy on behalf of thousands of homeless addicts, troubled souls and the people who love them. You have made a difference!

She's one of the problem people. No Black Female politician is worth anything, Maxine Waters, Lightfoot, Stacey Abrams, Breed, kamala Harris, Sheila Jackson,Bowser, Cantrell, Bottoms, T. Jones, Omar, Cori Bush, etc etc. Not ONE is a decent human being and all are communist. You are guaranteed to have a cesspool city if you have a black female mayor, and its sad, there are so many black females that are intelligent and decent, why are the pukes always picked by Democrats.

First time i've seen this list put together in one place. amazing. You forgot Lovely Warren and Kim Gardner. Much appreciated that you lament the absence of so many intelligent, decent black women in political office as leaders.

The recall against the DA, which was always unlikely, is even more of a remote chance now. The Progressives have already endorsered the DA and the moderates are going to sit this one out. Scott Wiener, one of the most influential moderates, has already condemned it.

A campaign funded mostly by out of state Conservatives and a few libertarian VCs and very little grass roots support was always going to be a long shot anyway.

I’m 58 years old and live in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. In 1982, my generation elected a State Governor with those same progressives’ ideas. Now I’m reading in American’s newspapers about Los Angeles and San Francisco. I must warn you that only such "progressive" ideas that are actually "communist" ideas lead to the destruction of the cities, as we have seen in the city of Rio de Janeiro during the last 35 years. The companies and industries that used to be here moved to the city of São Paulo. Good luck to Americans with the progressives/communists

Unbelievable. These people allow - even WELCOME - drugs and homelessness into their communities while fostering chaos and lawlessness; now, with midterm elections a year away, the dutiful Democrat reverses course and suddenly becomes an advocate on behalf of Law and Order - at least with regard to high-end retail. What a hypocrite. What a phony. Doesn't say much for the San Francisco electorate, does it?

How terrible that a politician responds to their constituents. Better to be ideologically wedding to your opinion even after you learn new evidence.

Is that your way? Refuse to ever change your mind, no matter how the world changes or how much new information you learn?
